Places of the world – Wedding

I received an email a while back, the day that my guinea pigs were featured on the lovemydress.net blog (the particular post can be found here! Gosh, it was such a beautiful wedding, what a lovely couple they were.).

A couple were interested in some unique wedding illustrations for their tables and they had rather a few tables planned.

There were two possible ideas for this new wedding, either a couple of sketches of their cat or important places for the couple. They had a big think about it and then got back to me after deciding on the places. Now, I could have sketched off some cats in about three hours, but the locations I was asked to draw were gorgeous and challenging and quite out of my comfort zone. They had seen one of my rough sketches from a little while back, a biro and quink ink drawing in Edinburgh and they wanted something similar. I switched out the biro for dip pen and ink, for a slightly scratchier, sketchier look.

I loved this project. At times, it made my brain go slightly silly (How many chimneys does this building need? Why are there so many arches? I am baffled by the perspective of this image how do i translate this into ink?), but I enjoyed them all in their own way. Some of them have odd little memories attached to them for me now as well. I’m looking at the Paris one and thinking of an adventure to a woods and T-Rex photography. (I sometimes get to draw from an office of wonderful people and sentences can change the direction of a day pretty much immediately.)

First off, started with rough sketches. Then I jumped straight into the final works, one of the first ones I drew was of the church were the two were to be married, and when shown the picture, they liked it so much they asked if they could have a copy of the illustration for their order of service. (Yes. Yes, they could because that was so bloomin’ sweet.)

The wedding happened yesterday, and I was told I could share the images, so here they are!

RIGHT. Here’s a image with all of the drawings. And then I’ll follow these up with some larger versions of some of my favourite pictures.

This building in California was a slightly odd one to draw, but I loved the perspective and challenge it threw at me. Angles look like they’re all over the place and the ink really brought this to life.

Just something about this cottage really pleases me, I think it might be the wall and those crossed windows.

I know the windows aren’t quite right on this one. But this building was probably the one that twisted my brain the most and the one day that I managed to get it looking as close to the photo as I seemed to be able, I treated myself with a KitKat Chunky (Double Caramel). It was a good day.

This is my favourite. I know basically nothing of this building but there’s something that just works. I think I got the shadows right. Or something. I don’t know. I think it’s the best one.

I am quite impressed that it was the third wedding I’ve drawn a tram for this year. Maybe trams are more romantic than I thought they were. (Preston, get your tram on.)

Thank you Lexi and David. I hope you had an absolutely beautiful day yesterday, and I have to thank you for not letting me get away with drawing cats for you.
